Enhancing Your Latent CreativityCreativity allows our imagination to produce fresh insights and revolutionary ideas. It is surprising how many of the world's best ideas have come when their creators have been in a trance-like state. Beethoven and Darwin had many of their ideas while riding in carriages, Archimedes while sitting in a bath tub, and Einstein while shaving. Mozart described how ideas came to him from an external source when he was in a dream-like state. Most of us are familiar with critical insights occurring at unexpected times and places. Often we become totally immersed in a problem and approach it from all possible angles without finding a solution, but during a period of relaxation afterwards, the very idea we have been seeking emerges. Generally, the creative process is poorly understood. A high score on an intelligence test does not automatically indicate a high degree of creativity. In fact, top scorers on creativity tests average 23 IQ points lower than top scorers on intelligence tests. This may explain why the subconscious mind (the right hemisphere of the brain) is thought to be the source of creative expression, while the conscious, logical mind (the left hemisphere) – which handles day-to-day business such as talking, writing, and reasoning – has only a small part to play. Highly creative people, such as writers, artists, and musicians, can suffer from blocks when their creative imagination suddenly dries up. The harder they seek inspiration, the more difficult it becomes to find it. Creative abilities can also be adversely affected by fear and self-criticism. Many artists will be too familiar with the internal voice saying, "What you are doing is just not enough". Awakening inspiration Hypnosis can relax creative people and allow a way of contacting the right side of the brain to achieve the best mental state for inspiration. Suggestions may include: "You feel all of your creative energy rising to the surface". Ego boosting may also help, with suggestions that they are an excellent, highly talented writer, for example. Writers can also be helped by specific suggestions that whenever they sit at their desk to write, ideas will flow. For Hypnotherapy Birmingham and help with Creativity, ring me on 0121 707 3588. |
